Recent figures released by the Carbon Trust, show that businesses account for 40 per-cent of the UKs annual carbon emissions, which is in turn costing businesses an estimated £2 billion. In light of the recent economic downturn, this is one expense we could all do without, so it makes sense to not only invest in the future of younger generations, but to find ways of reducing the impact this is having on businesses across the UK.

Findings from the Carbon Trust indicated that 67 per-cent of workers are willing to contribute towards reducing their companys carbon footprint, but they are unsure of how to go about it. Whats even more disturbing, however is that only 18 per-cent of workers felt that their businesses are actively reducing their carbon footprint.

Mr Ellwood added, Bringing greener habits into the workplace is an essential part of tackling climate change, especially as a significant proportion of CO2 emissions come from businesses. Encouraging your workers to bring their green attitudes into the workplace, maybe by using a brainstorming session, could be a great way to achieve environmental harmony. It is important that every business makes a conscious effort to help the environment.

If you replace the traditional light bulb with 0.7W energy saving light bulb, which has the equivalent normal wattage of 10W and ran it for a day, you would save £12.22 annually. This may be a small change, but in the long-term if you replace all of your bulbs throughout the house, you could easily up to £100 every year, if not more!
