4 Lighting Ideas To Brighten Homes This Winter

Winter is a magical time of year in almost every sense- the darkness being one of the exceptions. Nights draw to a close much earlier, and even in our homes it can look bleak and dreary. Nothing creates mood better than lighting, so now is the perfect time to make a few improvements around the home. Whether you want to create a more romantic setting even the smallest change can make a huge difference.

Use Alternative Light Fixtures

Using different types of fixtures can create mood, as well as add a bit of decoration. Lamps and wall lights come in various different shapes and sizes, and are perfect when the ceiling light is a bit harsh. Spotlights are perfect for the kitchen, because they allow light to be focused exactly where you need it. Elsewhere, you could even use fairy lights to brighten up your home. They’re incredibly versatile so you can use them all around the house – try decorating a mirror frame or using at the edge of shelves. You could even bundle them up and arrange in a clear vase or lantern to make a pretty centrepiece.

Change Your Bulbs

Making the change from incandescent bulbs to LED lights will brighten up your home for winter. You will use less energy and receive the same amount of light- and you won’t need to change them as often. While you’re hunting for bulbs, check the Kelvin temperature on the box to make sure the bulbs you buy are suitable for the room. Bright white light bulbs are great for use in the bathroom, but in the living room, a lower temperature bulb will give you a warmer, more relaxing glow.

Whether or not you’re in the kitchen baking with the kids, or in the dining room entertaining guests, make sure your lighting is suitable for the environment. Using mirrors to reflect light will make your room brighter, and will also give the illusion that the room is bigger, too. You could even use lights as a decorative feature, either using string lights or creating wall art out of light fixtures.
