BLT Direct, a leading supplier of lighting solutions for homes and businesses across the UK, has issued a rallying cry for all those who are dreading the December electricity bill falling onto their doormat in the near future. The lighting experts are encouraging homeowners and those maintaining business premises to switch to LED lights and other energy-saving lighting alternatives, in order to offset the increased electricity usage they will experience as they put up their Christmas decorations and illuminate their homes in longer hours of darkness this December.
Steven Ellwood, Managing Director of BLT Direct, which has a comprehensive array of LED light fittings and energy-saving light bulbs, says, “Christmas, and the month of December, is traditionally the month where electricity bills soar. Families are putting up energy-guzzling Christmas decorations, they are entertaining guests in their homes and they are leaving the lights on for longer in order to combat the extended hours of darkness at this time of year. Businesses are dealing with the Christmas rush, often putting in overtime and running their own festive decorations; no wonder people fear the electricity bill’s arrival at this time of year. Luckily, with the introduction of energy-efficient lighting, there is still time to offset the higher amount of electricity used if the public act fast.”
By swapping all the regular bulbs in the home for low-energy LEDs, which have incredibly high efficiency ratings, home and business owners, the increased amount of electricity being used to power Christmas lights and other electrical features will be minimised as much as possible. By decreasing the amount of energy used in other areas of the home, the extra power used is offset and the electricity bills for the month suddenly become less daunting.
Installing LED lights is also a task which doesn’t require much time or energy, which are often both in short supply over the festive season. They come in a range of different bases, shapes and wattages, so the existing bulbs can be replicated almost exactly. There is no need to change the entire light fixture, or spend hours researching the right type of bulb; the right bulb can be unscrewed or clipping into position ready to start accumulating electricity savings within minutes.
For those who want to increase their savings, there are also a number of Christmas LED solutions, from vibrant multi-coloured lights to hang from the tree, to elegant icicle lights that make the exterior of a house look festive and welcoming. These are just as low-energy as their conventional cousins, and help to minimise electricity bills for homes and businesses even further this Christmas.
