However, painting every single wall an uninspiring shade of white just isn’t an option for those of us that take home décor seriously, so let’s look at some of the ways lighting can help give the impression of space and light, whatever the room.

Show Off Your Features
Lighting shouldn’t just be restricted to ceilings and walls alone. Many homeowners are now getting creative with lighting to showcase the best features of their rooms and make the space appear much bigger than it actually is.
Some good examples of this are small uplighters either side of a fireplace, LED undershelf strip lighting for kitchen cabinets and larger uplighters or stand-alone lamps in the darkest corners of rooms to flood the ceiling with light and add ambience to the space.

Clever And Contemporary Lighting
It's very tempting to fill a small space with lamps to increase the amount of light in each room, but by adding clutter, you can actually make the space feel so much smaller than it really is.
To get around this, many side tables are now coming complete with strip lighting that sits beneath a frosted glass panel to give off a soft glow when turned on. Not only does this keep your surfaces clear and clutter-free, but the lighting creates a cosy atmosphere without the need for a lamp.
Use Wall Recesses For Dramatic Effect
If space is at a premium and you don’t want to be bumping into floor standing lamps or wall lights, then adding LED uplighters to wall recesses can create a dramatic look and increase light in dark areas without having to use up valuable space.
Combined with glass blocks, the LED light is amplified further still and can create a bright and welcoming wall feature that banishes the dark areas that can make the room seem small and unwelcoming.
Bedroom Cabinets
A secondary source of soft light is always welcome in bedrooms, and cabinets fitted with soft lights can be an excellent solution for small sleeping spaces instead of using lamps.
LED up or downlights can create a soft and ambient glow to any bedroom with minimum work, and with such a wide range of energy saving LED light fittings available, it offers a great way of providing extra light without taking up any extra space.
