The 18W halogen lamps (kosnic brand) are very economical when used on a chandelier (e.g. 5x 18W = 90W) and, most importantly, provide a light output that looks good. For a smaller room the brightness is adequate and preferable to the use of five 40W lamps that would be too bright. For larger rooms the 28W or 42W lamps would be a better choice. The bulbs have been installed about 3 weeks ago and none has blown so far -- unlike some Diall brand bulbs I bought from B&Q which suffered two failures out of five in the first month. The filament of the 18W bulb is very thin and looks fragile, but all 5 bulbs ordered came intact and were well packaged by BLT. The bulbs also have the traditional built in fuse that cheaper unbranded bulbs don\'t have -- the difference -- the bulbs won\'t explode and separate, in a mini rocket launch, from their caps when they blow. I say economical because they allow the use of lower wattages than would otherwise be used -- The good LED lamps would, obviously, offer even more economy but the quality of light would, in my opinion, not be that good.-- both types are now suitable for dimming. Fluorescent types don\'t dim that well (most don\'t aren\'t dimmable at all) and needless to say the light output is not as good as halogen bulbs. The bulb is of good quality and the quality of light is very good. Recommended! JSR
